Issue/Question
How can I add a custom dictionary to the Tablet Input Panel (TIP)?
Resolution/Answer
The dictionary tool can be used to import a text file of terms to the tablet input panel dictionary. This will allow for easier recognition of terms such as medical or even acronyms.
To add a custom dictionary:
1. Install the dictionary tool (the application is attached in the zip file)
a. Please note this tool is no longer supported by Microsoft
2. If you get the error "This setup requires the .NET Framework version 1.0.3705", just manually install .NET framework 1.1 from Download details: .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package.
3. From the dictionary tool select File -> Import directory
4. Test to ensure that your new dictionary is recognizing the terms
To share the dictionary for any new user that is created, copy the .DAT file from:
C:\Documents and Settings\firstUser\Application Data\Microsoft\Speech\Files\UserLexicons
Where firstUser is where the dictionary was originally generated
